De Queen Lake

De Queen Lake is located on the Rolling Fork River in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains.  The lake covers 1,680 surface acres and has 35 miles of shoreline.  The lake is a fine fishing resource with deep open water and flooded standing timber.  Major fish species include black bass, crappie, bream and catfish.  Other recreational activities include camping, boating, water skiing, swimming, picnicking, and hunting.  Over 1,000 of the project’s 5,000 land acres are intensively managed for both game and non-game species of wildlife by the Corps of Engineers.  Major game species include deer, rabbit, turkey, quail and ducks.

Bellah Mine: 20 RV/Tent w/electricity.  7 miles north of De Queen on U.S. 71, then 5 miles west on Bellah Mine Road.  Facilities:  Vault toilets, water (Mar-Oct), boat ramp, trailer dump station.  (Open year-round) User’s fee charged.

Oak Grove: 36 RV/Tent w/ electricity.  3 miles north of De Queen on U.S. 71 and 5 miles west on project access road, then .25 mile north on county road.  Facilities:  flush and vault toilets, water, hot showers, boat ramp, playground, dump station, swimming beach, smphitheater, picnic shelter, 8 picnic sites.  (Open year-round; no electricity Oct - Mar) User’s fee charged Mar-Oct.

Pine Ridge: 50 RV/Tent w/ electricity; 30 RV/Tent with no hookups.  3 miles north of De Queen on U.S. 71 and 5 miles west on project access road, then 2 miles north on county road.  Facilities:  Vault toilets, water (Mar-Oct) boat ramp, showers.  (Open year-round) User’s fee charged Mar-Oct.

Gillham Lake

“The Bright Spot on the Cossatot.” Gillham Lake is located on the Cossatot River, one of the most challenging white water streams in Arkansas.  The lake lies about 16 miles north of the town of De Queen and 6 miles northeast of Gillham.  At normal pool Gillham Lake covers 1,370 acres with a shoreline of 37 miles.  The deep, clear blue lake in the foothills of the Ouachita Mountains is surrounded by a beautiful hardwood/pine forest and offers boating, fishing, skiing and swimming.  The wide expanse of white, sandy beach provides hours of pleasure for picnicking and building “sand castles”.  The canoe launch area downstream of the dam provides an easy acess to the river for kayakers and canoeists and for float trips when sufficient water is being released.  In addition, the forest around the lake offers hunting, hiking and nature study.  Gillham Lake offers something for everyone.

Cossatot Reefs: 22 RV/Tent with electricity; 8 RV/Tent with no hookups.  6 miles northeast of Gillham via county road, close to the dam.  Facilities:  Flush and vault toilets, water, showers, boat ramp, swimming area, covered picnic shelter, playgound.  (Open year-round) User’s fee charged.

Little Coon Creek: 10 RV/Tent with no hookups.  6 miles northeast of Gillham via county road and approximately 3 miles north via public use and county road.  Facilities:  Vault toilet, boat ram.  (Open year-round)

Dierks Lake

Even though only half of the lake is in Sevier County, it’s one of our “Tri-Lakes” the area is so famous for.  Dierks Lake is surrounded by beautiful hardwood and pine forests and offers recreational opportunities to boaters and non-boaters alike.  For the fisherman there are many coves, inlets, and flooded timber to fish for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, crappie, catfish and several species of sunfish.  The main area of the 1,360 acre lake offers ample room for water skiers and recreational boaters.  Below the lake at Horseshoe Bend, canoeists and kayakers enjoy exciting sport when sufficient water is being released.  The natural beauty of the steep ridges, dense forests, and abundant wildlife make this area a favorite for the hunter.  Located on the Saline River about 5 miles northwest of the town of Dierks, Dierks Lake has easy access off of
Highway 70.
